Orlando Pirates midfielder Musa Nyatama has started off the 2018/19 season from where he left off in the previous campaign as Bucs key midfield man when it comes to offensive possession.
With only two league games played so far in the new season, Nyatama has already emerged as Bucs' top passer of the football. The lanky midfielder was the driving force in Pirates’ 1-0 victory over Chippa United where he had a total of 83 touches, more than any other player from both teams during the game. This led to 74 passes with 61 of those being successful, and thus contributing to Bucs total overall of 531 passes made and 83.1% accuracy.
What is even more impressive is that although Nyatama spent a bulk of that game in the centre circle, within his own half, 89% of his passes were forward passes to the Pirates attackers. He also managed to achieve an 82% passing accuracy, while displaying his balling winning skills by winning the ball on 14 occasions from the opposition.
This was the case in the Sea Robbers first league encounter of the new season against Highlands Park where the game ended in 1-1 draw. He produced 71 successful passes more than any other Bucs players and also provided four shot assists to his fellow teammates.
Last season the former Bloemfontein Celtic man scored four league goals and will hope to improve on his tally. Pirates take on SuperSport United this coming Saturday evening at the Orlando Stadium where Nyatama will be instrumental in helping Pirates edge the Tshwane side who have a good record against the Soweto Giants.
The MTN8 clash between Pirates and SuperSport United starts at 20h30 at the Orlando Stadium.
