Linda Mntambo might not have played many matches this season, but former Orlando Pirates midfielder Gerald Modabi sees a future Bafana Bafana player in the ex-Jomo Cosmos player.
Modabi speaks highly of the former Chippa United central midfielder and believes that he would be one of the players in Bafana plans as part of the South African Football Association’s vision 2022 for the FIFA World Cup.
“Let us talk national team football because it’s not only about club football, if we are preparing players for the national team as part of vision 2022, I can bet my last cent to say Linda Mntambo would be one of the midfielders in that team,” said Modabi.
Mntambo last played when Bucs lost 2-0 to Esperance Sportive de Tunis over three weeks ago.
The 29-year-old central midfielder has five league starts for Bucs so far this season, however, Modabi believes that more is coming from the player, who did well for the Chilli Boys during his stint in Port Elizabeth with them, before being snapped up by the Buccaneers.
“I’m not friends with him, he is not my friend, but I’m speaking as a fan who is seeing a potential Bafana Bafana central midfielder in the form of Yaya Toure,” added Modabi.
