Bucs Legend: Don’t Buy From Your Biggest Rival And Bench The Player
Orlando Pirates legend on Brilliant Khuzwayo joining the elite group of players who played for both Soweto giants
Orlando Pirates former captain and club legend Lucky Lekgwathi has told Soccer Laduma that newly signed goalkeeper, Brilliant Khuzwayo has now joined the elite group of players who have played for both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, but the switch won’t be easy.
Speaking to the crew the Bucs legend said Khuzwayo will have to do a lot to win over the Pirates supporters but noted that 28-year-old has the quality to be a success at the Buccaneers.
“The Brilliant Khuzwayo signing is perhaps the most talked about because he moved from Kaizer Chiefs to Orlando Pirates,” said the Lekgwathi.
“For me, I still believe that its only special players who are given that honour. He is joining a very elite group of players more especially since he is a goalkeeper, so it makes it even more special. However, it’s going to be easy,” added the Bucs legend.
“In recent times, it has become more acceptable for players to do so and move between the two clubs. However, the pressure is still more. I’m sure the supporter will be expecting even more from him.
“At Chiefs, he wasn’t the number one keeper but at Pirates, the expectation will definitely be there and there are already some really good keepers there. But at the same time you don’t go and buy a keeper from your biggest rival and make him sit on the bench, so it’s going to be tricky one even for the coaches.
“I hope he shows his quality and becomes a regular. There is so much quality at Pirates but he has the quality to show his best,” concluded the former Bucs defender.
Lekgwathi never played for Kaizer Chiefs however, he remains one of the longest-serving players at Pirates having spent 15 years at the club as a player.
