Orlando Pirates appear to be chasing a striker to add to Milutin Sredojevic’s team, with the club believed to be keeping tabs on a Malawian youngster for a potential deal.
Reports in Malawi indicate that Pirates recently had Griffin Young Stars FC striker Peter Banda on trial with the team.
Young Stars coach and owner, Griffin Saenda Junior, has told Malawian publication Nyasa Times that he is confident that the player could earn a contract at the Soweto giants.
“I’m confident that we’ll have a good feedback from the team (Pirates) very soon because they have assured me that they will sit down and discuss issues concerning contract offer, so we’ll be eagerly waiting,” the official has been quoted as saying by the publication.
Saenda is said to have been in Mzansi with the player when he came for his trial with Bucs. The Malawian U20 international had Pirates following his progress since early this year.
In April this year, the player was reportedly invited by Bucs to be part of their Project X Brazil Tour as a guest player.
However, the 18-year-old could not make it to the tour as he faced complications with obtaining all the official paperwork required at the time.
At the time of publishing, Pirates' administrative officer, Floyd Mbele, had been yet to reply to the Siya crew's enquiries on the club's reported interest in the player.
