Chippa Star Confirms His Love For Pirates
Orlando Pirates Have A Big Fan In Chippa United Midfielder
Orlando Pirates have a big fan in Linda Mntambo, as confirmed by the midfielder himself.
The Chippa United attack-minded player made the revelation on his love for the Buccaneers on Soccer Laduma Radio’s Big Interview.
Mntambo, 28, is a Soweto-born player. He says his grandfather was one of the founders of Pirates.
The former Jomo Cosmos player talks about his ambition to play in the Soweto Derby one day in his career, while later in the interview he also expresses his ambition to play for Bafana Bafana.
“It is true. I’ve always loved Pirates. I stay a stone’s throw away from Orlando Stadium. That’s the team I grew up supporting and I used to cry when Pirates lost.
“We have a rich history, my grandfather was one of the founders of Orlando Pirates. I’ve always loved the team, and to see myself, a boy from Soweto, the only thing I’d love is to play a Soweto Derby,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mntambo’s teammates are finalising their preparations for this weekend’s match against Pirates.
However, there have been doubts on Mlambo’s readiness for the match, as he has been recovering from injury.
The Port Elizabeth team earlier confirmed that ‘Figo’ would undergo a late fitness test for calf strain from last weekend’s match against Baroka.
Chippa and Pirates will play their league match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday.
