Pirates Mirror 2014/15 Season Record
Orlando Pirates Enjoy Impressive League Form
Following their win against Golden Arrows at the weekend, Orlando Pirates have equalled the record they achieved three seasons ago.
The Buccaneers defeated Abafana Bes’thende 2-1 in their Absa Premiership match played at KwaZulu-Natal’s Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday.
The win against Arrows was the fourth in succession in the league for Milutin Sredojevic and his team. The first of the successive four league wins for Bucs was the 2-1 victory over Maritzburg United on 03 February 2018.
A 4-2 drubbing of Chippa United on 25 February 2018 was followed by the 3-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby on 03 March 2018. The next league match for Pirates will be against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Orlando Stadium on 04 April.
The last time Pirates won four league matches in succession was during the 2014/15 season under Eric Tinkler, who was the team’s caretaker coach at the time, having taken over the coaching reins from Vladimir Vermezovic earlier that season.
Bucs’ four-game winning streak in that season started with their last match of 2014, against Bloemfontein Celtic on December 20. Pirates won that game 2-1, thanks to a Lehlohonolo Majoro goal, as well as an own goal from Bevan Fransman.
The Soweto giants went on to win their first three matches of 2015: 2-1 against AmaZulu on 11 February 2015, with Majoro and Kermit Erasmus scoring the goals, 2-0 against Platinum Stars on 14 February 2015, with Majoro and Lennox Bacela scoring the goals, as well as the 3-1 win over Polokwane City on 28 February 2015, with Mpho Makola, Kermit Erasmus and an Oupa Manyisa penalty doing the business for them.
Their winning streak came to an end with a 1-1 draw against Free State Stars. Bucs finished the 2014/15 season in fourth place on the log.
With six matches remaining for them this season, Bucs are serious contenders for the league title as they are positioned second on the log behind Mamelodi Sundowns, with just one point separating them, although the Chloorkop outfit has a game in hand.
