Solid Defence Key To Bucs’ Resurgence
Orlando Pirates’ Defence Has Improved
Orlando Pirates have had a notable improvement in their defence in the matches played by the team so far this season.
The Buccaneers are in second place on the Absa Premiership log and tied with Maritzburg United on seven points at the summit of the log. Bucs have won two and drawn one of their opening three matches of the campaign.
Under Milutin Sredojevic and his technical team, there has been a notable improvement in the team’s defence as the side has conceded only one goal from their three matches.
Apart from Pirates, Maritzburg United and Cape Town City are the only other two teams that have conceded a goal each from their matches. Wayne Sandilands has emerged as the number one goalkeeper for Bucs this season, with the former Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper proving to be solid in goal for Sredojevic’s side.
Innocent Maela has started very well in defence for the Soweto giants, while the likes of Ntsikelelo Nyauza, Thabo Matlaba and Gladwin Shitolo have also been impressive.
Last season Bucs conceded a whopping 40 goals from their 30 league games, which led to the team finishing outside the top eight. Sredojevic has emphasised the importance for the team to pick up the points so as to get the team to the top.
