PSL Leaderboards: Pirates Slack, Wits Clinical, Chippa Ineffective
Orlando Pirates have the third worst defensive record in the Absa Premiership this season and given the chances they give the opposition, it comes as no surprise.

The Buccaneers are battling for a top eight spot after winning just five league games all season (they’ve won as many in cup matches) and up until this point have allowed more shots on goal than any other team (421). Kaizer Chiefs are in second place with (324).
Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, Bidvest Wits concede on average just 9.6 shots per game – the best in the league and have the highest shot conversion rate, scoring 13.8% of their efforts on goal. They also have the best shot accuracy (39.6%).
Interestingly, Bloemfontein Celtic, who have scored just 13 goals this season, have had more shots than almost any other club (344), but have a conversion rate of only 3.5%. They average 9.1 shots from outside the box per game.
Another poignant statistic this season so far relates to Chippa United, a team that were praised at the start of the season but now find themselves on the edge of a relegation battle.
Despite averaging more passes per game (628) than any other team in the league and having the highest amount of possession (58.8%), they’re only managing 0.8 goals a game and have only had 201 shots all season. Just 17.3% of their possession is in the final third.
The Chilli Boys also average fewer touches in the opposition’s penalty area (10.3 per game) than any other club in the league, showing that they struggle to get into dangerous areas.
