Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana Rising Star Sandile Mthethwa Reveals His Toughest Opponent
Rising Orlando Pirates star Sandile Mthethwa has revealed the toughest opponent he has faced, as he continues his climb up the South African football ladder.
Mthethwa has enjoyed a steady rise since joining the Buccaneers from the KZN Academy in 2016, with the 20-year-old having captained the Soweto giants' Reserve Team, while also making his Bafana Bafana debut last year.
Mthethwa is currently furthering his footballing education in the National First Division, where he is on loan with Richards Bay FC, and he has since named the strongest opponent he has faced so far in his career.
“The toughest striker has to be the guy from Highlands Park, he’s a Namibian striker (Peter Shalulile)," Mthethwa told Orlando Pirates' official website.
"He is very quick and doesn’t hold the ball much, so you have to keep close to him. The moment you give him space then he’s gone.
"Most strikers in the league (NFD) like to hold on to the ball and it makes it a bit easier at times to mark them because you get used to them turning in certain ways or moving in certain directions because they are either left or right footed.
"It’s not to say they are easy to play against, but Shalulile is the toughest for me.”
