SAFA Presidential Race Spills Over To Supporters

The Siya crew can confirm that the South African Football Association presidential race has spilt over to supporters.

SAFA is expected to name its new President on 24 March 2018, with Dr Danny Jordaan touted to be re-elected as the FA’s next president for the next four years.

However, as the race heats up the crew has been informed that certain fractions with SAFA’s regional offices have resorted to campaigning for their favourite candidates by lobbying Bafana Bafana’s number one supporter Freddie 'Saddam' Maake.

According to the prominent football supporter, certain people have approached him with offers to back their favourite candidates for the top SAFA seat.

“People have come to me demanding I support their candidates for the SAFA presidential job. They have even come to my home saying I must coordinate supporters across the country to back their candidates to win the election,” Maake told the Siya crew.

“Firstly people must know that supporters have nothing to do with the voting as this is an internal process within SAFA structures. These people are making this thing political and I have no time for that.

“I have been working for SAFA as a Supporters Coordinator. Even as we speak I’m currently in a process of organising buses for supporters to go watch the U-17 Women’s national team, Bantwana, when they take on Morocco in Dobsonville,” added Maake.

“I want people to know that I will not take part in any campaign or rally that backs anyone over anyone else. My job is to support anyone who is elected fairly as the new SAFA president. People must stay away from me, they need to let the process happen the way it should,” he added.

Meanwhile, media reports have suggested that the former SAFA Vice-President Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana is backing Tokyo Sexwale for the Presidential Chair.
