Amajita beat defending champions Zambia 1-0 at the Cosafa under-20 Championship in Lesotho on Saturday afternoon.
South Africa started well and the man who got a brace in their first game, Siyanda Ngubo, from the Orlando Pirates youth set-up, had a chance in the first minute as he broke into the box, but his shot was well stopped by Mangani Banda.
FC Twente-bound Nhlakanipho Ntuli had a chance in the 5th minute, after being played in well by Pule Maraisane (from Farouk Khan's Stars of Africa), but his shot from just inside the area went just over the bar.
In the 18th minute Zambia came close from a corner, but no player could get to the ball as the ball bobbled around the box, and it was eventually cleared.
Ngubo had another chance in the 23rd minute but his headed attempt went over the goal.
Amajita came close in the 27th minute from a corner, but Ntuli's header on target hit the keeper and the follow-up shot went wide.
Solomon Sakala had a chance for Zambia in the 33rd minute, but his long range effort went wide to the right of Ajax youngster Jody February's goal.
In the 44th minute, after some good build-up play, Tebogo Moerane, also from Pirates' development, tried a long range effort, but it went high and wide, and at half-time it remained goalless.
In the second minute of the second half Santos' Fagrie Lakay had a chance for Amajita but his shot from a tight angle was saved by Banda.
Ntuli had another chance in the 55th minute, but his shot took a deflection and went out.
Amajita grabbed the lead in the 58th minute through the very same Ntuli, who let rip from the edge of the area, and 'Nanana's shot flew into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Zambia came close in the 67th minute, but Ronald Chibwe's long range effort flew wide to the right.
Zambia were reduced to ten men when Chibwe got his second yellow in the 80th minute.
With Namibia beating the Seychelles earlier in the day, all Amajita need now is a draw against the Namibians on the 10th to top the group.
