After spending a few weeks training with Bidvest Wits, former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thandani Ntshumayelo has surfaced at Highlands Park and could be hoping to land a PSL deal with the Lions of the North.
‘Bibo’ won an appeal to have his four-year drug ban reduced to two by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) – which he had already served – in September last year.
He was subsequently invited to train with the Clever Boys by his former coach Gavin Hunt, who had suggested that if the midfielder impresses he could very well earn himself a contract with the 2017 Absa Premiership champions.
Nothing was said since, and the 28-year-old is now trying his luck with coach Owen Da Gama’s outfit, the Siya crew has learnt.
Until his ban for cocaine use in January 2016 by SAIDS, the player had enjoyed a relatively successful career at SuperSport United and Pirates as well as making three appearances for Bafana Bafana.
He will be hoping Highlands Park can throw him a lifeline similar to how they did Jabulani Shongwe, who last week signed a contract for the remainder of the 2018/19 season with an option to renew. Shongwe was searching for a club after he was released by Chippa United earlier this year.
