Bafana Bafana defender Thabo Nthethe says that the team tried their best following their 2-1 loss to Ethiopia on Sunday.
The result meant that Bafana cannot qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup as they will be unable to reach the same tally as Group A leaders Ethiopia.
Nthethe admits that they should have done better with their chances on the day, but feels that they fought hard and gave the match everything they had.
"We came to this game knowing that it was going to be war. We had to make sure that we fought and we did our best. I think we have done our best and as a team we have done well, but well done to Ethiopia for showing their hunger. I think (they wanted it) more than us," he said.
"But I think we played well and created chances to score the goals and it never happened. But we need to keep moving forward."
When asked about the vocal crowd, which created a tense atmosphere, he added, "This crowd was something that disturbed us, but as a team we knew that they would be supporting their team all the way. We saw in Afcon they were there supporting their team with big numbers. So we knew it was going to be a battle against them."
