Celtic Fans Plan Boycott Of Games

Determined to get answers from the Bloemfontein Celtic management, the chairman of the Supporters’ Club has told the Siya crew of a planned boycott for this weekend’s fixtures.

Mabena Pule said Phunya Sele Sele were likely to play their Absa Premiership home game against Golden Arrows at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday in front of an empty crowd. Celtic has been struggling financially this season and players have gone on strike several times already during the 2018/19 campaign – with coach Steve Komphela resigning last month following a turbulent six months in charge of the Free State-based outfit.

Komphela’s resignation letter was leaked to the public and in it, the coach cited poor management and broken promises as among the reasons for throwing in the towel. Pule said the Supporters’ Club was still waiting to hear from owner Max Tshabalala regarding the way forward.

“We have not seen or spoken to the management since the potential sale of the club fell through in September,” he told the Siya crew.

“So in order to be heard, we are not going to attend the game on Sunday because of these issues. Any information at our disposal is coming from the media, not the club. We are all in limbo. Are the issues the coach raised in his resignation letter going to be addressed, is the club going to stay in Bloemfontein if it is sold? We need answers.”

Coincidentally, Komphela has joined Arrows and has said that a return to the Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday will be an emotional one.
