Khama Billiat has not met up with the Zimbabwean squad ahead of the 2017 Gabon African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Zimbabwean internationals have all returned to their respective home country ahead of the nation’s qualifiers, but Mamelodi Sundowns’ Zimbabwean attacking player has remained behind.
Zimbabwe is set to face Guinea on Saturday, September 3, but will be without the services of Billiat.
A source close to the player’s camp has confirmed that Billiat has not met up with the national Zimbabwean squad so that he may be rested ahead of Sundowns’ semi-final encounters in the MTN8 competition and the CAF Champions League.
Billiat is arguably Masandawana’s best player, and permutations are that the player would want to avoid a situation of picking up an injury on international duty, while Zimbabwe have already qualified for AFCON.
The Brazilians are currently in the semi-finals of both the CAF Champions League and the MTN8, playing more competitive matches than other teams in the PSL.
Mosimane has pleaded to the PSL to reward the club some leniency by rescheduling the PSL fixtures before the semi-finals.
He also pleaded to the Bafana Bafana head coach, Shakes Mashaba to not include the Sundowns players in the national team’s squad, as the country already failed to qualify for AFCON.
Unfortunately for Sundowns' head coach, all the Masandawana players are still in the squad. However, Mosimane can now rest assured that Billiat will not be at risk of picking up injuries in international matches during the current break.
