Last week Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach, Stuart Baxter, made it clear that no players are guaranteed a starting place in his squad.
The Amakhosi have had somewhat of a turnaround in fortunes over the last seven days, taking four points from two games and taking their standing to joint top of the PSL on 11 points.
However, Baxter turned a few heads with his selections, firstly by demoting Erick Mathoho and Bernard Parker to the bench in the 0-0 draw against Bloemfontein Celtic.

In the following game, the 2-1 win over Platinum Stars, he did the same to Tsepo Masilela, Knowledge Musona, Siphiwe Tshablala and Tefu Mashamaite, choosing four of this season’s lesser used players in their places.

Meanwhile, in another shock, with Siboniso Gaxa recovering from injury, Baxter opted to use the experienced Josta Dladla at right-back instead of natural full-back, Kgotso Moleko. That move proved to be a stroke of genius as the 34-year-old went on to win the Man of the Match award.
The Amakhosi’s next game will see them take on Orlando Pirates in the second leg of their MTN8 semi-final and it has been said that Baxter would be resting his regular starters for that encounter, although the Englishman has denied that is the case.
Roger de Sa now has a dilemma on his hands as he looks to plan for whichever starting XI Baxter goes for in tomorrow’s encounter.
