NFD Round Up

Most of the National First Division games ended in stalemates, including the top-of-the-table clash between log leaders Chippa United and second placed Vasco da Gama, but Milano United are back to number one spot following a 2-0 victory over Roses United.

At Philippi Stadium, Jaabier Delport opened the scoring for Keenin Lesch’s side but the Chilli Boys fought back to level matters thanks to Sipho Mtule.

Both goals came during the second period and this 1-1 result leaves both clubs with 32 points from 17 games, although Chippa has a superior goal difference.

Earlier, across the Mother City at Parow Park, FC Cape Town and Jomo Cosmos also produced the same score in a match which began at 14.00hr so that the Johannesburg outfit could catch an early flight home.

The African Beasts missed a number of first-half opportunities but credit must be given to Ezenkosi’s young goalkeeper Tsatsi Theletsane. He was correctly placed to stop two fierce Jarrod Maroole free kicks, as the teams went into the break goalless.

Within ten minutes of the second period both sides had scored, first Andile Khumalo put Duncan Lechesa’s team ahead before Cosmos found the net with an own goal.

At Makhuvha Stadium, Black Leopards were held to a 2-2 draw by Baroka FC for whom Tshepo Mothiba and Excellent Mokobane netted.

Maboke Matlakala and Jabulani Ndebele ensured Lidoda Duvha remain in sixth spot, on the same points as Santos (24) after the People’s Team and Sivutsa Stars played to a goalless draw in a rain-affected game at Kabokweni.

Another side sitting on 24 points is African Warriors after they surprised United FC 3-2 at the Olympia Stadium, while Witbank Spurs whacked Maluti FET College 4-1 at Charles Mopeli.

Braces from Sici Shelembe and Ralf Matema enabled Siyavutha to move up to eighth position, one point ahead of Jomo Cosmos (22).

There were also no goals during the hotly contested relegation clash between Thanda Royal Zulu and Blackburn Rovers but Roses’ loss at Grassy Park drops them into the bottom two.

Black Leopards 2 Baroka FC 2
