In this week's edition of Soccer-Laduma, issue number 853, FC Cape Town head coach Duncan Lechesa talks to us about how he has brought back winning ways at the club- with the NFD Focus brought to you by Lucky Star.
When the coach arrived at the club, FC Cape Town were struggling and without a win in their opening eight games, but Lechesa told Soccer-Laduma about the approach he took to turn things around.
"I started to work on the structure using basics, which included the physical part and mental strength. Fitness wise they were not there, so that took some hard work to get right.
"On arriving, I discovered that they were only training once a day, in the afternoon, so I said, 'gentlemen, you need to sacrifice for the next two or three weeks.'
"That's when we began morning and afternoon sessions. During our first win away to Blackburn Rovers, the four yellow cards that my boys picked up showed our commitment. Then after beating Thanda 4-2, I could see we were improving."
The coach also discussed the fact that his troops had to quickly come to grips with the wind in the Mother City, with many of his troops coming from upcountry.
"That's a problem for us. It's very important for my players to learn how to play in the wind. Santos and Vasco da Game are doing well in that aspect. Their players grew up in the windy conditions."
