Ivan Izzo, who coached La Liga star Neymar Jr before the Brazilian moved to Barcelona, is keen on landing a coaching job with a club in South Africa’s top flight.
The 51-year-old plied his trade as an assistant coach to the likes of Brazilian-based Santos, Flamengo and Atletico Mineiro, and is currently in Mzansi where he is assessing his options for a role in coaching.
“I have great experience as a player in Brazil. After retiring, I worked as assistant coach at Santos, Flamengo, Atletico Mineiro and various other clubs. So I’m used to working with great professionals like Neymar and also good at dealing with the challenges in our (Brazilian) Serie A,” Izzo told the Siya crew.
The ex-Palmeiras goalkeeper was recently at Athlone Stadium, where he watched Ajax Cape Town host Golden Arrows in an Absa Premiership encounter which ended 1-0 to the Urban Warriors.
“I’ve an open mind as far as coming to SA is concerned. I enjoyed my first PSL match. I thought Ajax seemed to play a more attacking game but had some difficulty in finalising their last passes, whereas Arrows had a well-defined tactic. They were quick in both defence and attack,” he added.
