Free State Stars have signed Congo national team goalkeeper Christopher Mafoumbi.
As reported by the Siya crew, the shot-stopper arrived at the Bethlehem outfit earlier this month for a trial under French coach Denis Lavagne and his technical team.
Sources at the club have confirmed that the 22-year-old goalkeeper has been signed on a one-year deal by Stars, with an option to extend the contract by a further two years.
However, the player is currently injured, with sources indicating that he could spend long spells on the sidelines.
“The Congo national team goalkeeper, who has just signed with Free State Stars, has picked up an injury. He got injured in one of the friendly games. He was jumping for a high ball and landed awkwardly and injured his Achilles tendon. He could be out for the rest of the upcoming season,” said the source.
Mafoumbi has been on the books of FK Vereya Stara Zagora in Bulgaria. He was signed to replace Burkina Faso goalkeeper Daouda Diakite, who has been released by the club.
