Mere Finds New Club, But Swallows Drama Not Over

Former Swallows FC defender Vuyo Mere is considering fighting for his payout after the club terminated his contract with six months to go on the deal.

Mere confirmed to the Siya crew that he was suspended by the club towards the end of last year and faced the DC, before he was let go.

He has since joined TS Galaxy on an 18-month contract, but the 37-year-old intends on taking the legal route to get his payout because he feels he was unfairly dismissed. Mere's contract with the Birds was due to expire at the end of June this year, but his time with the club came to an end.

"They gave me my clearance and I asked about my payout. They said there is a clause in our handbook that when a player is released… the termination clause. They say there is no payout, but I am going to fight that because now I was unfairly dismissed. That one I will just leave to my lawyers. They are taking care of it," he said to the Siya crew.

"It was the first time in my career that I was suspended. No warning, no nothing. So, I am asking where did I go wrong. Is questioning the handbook a problem? I still don't find anything wrong that I did."

According to Swallows CEO Sipho Xulu, it was decided that Mere's contract should be terminated after he was found guilty, but he was given an opportunity to appeal.

"I don't know what exactly he told you, but my response to the question you asked me is that there were issues between him and the club, which was related to misconduct on his side. He was taken through the disciplinary procedures, where he was found guilty. The verdict was that his employment must be terminated. He was informed of that and he appealed the decision," Xulu told the Siya crew.

"The club accepted his appeal and when that was still being considered, he sent a letter to the club that he is asking for his clearance and that he is no longer interested and that he wants to try his luck somewhere else. That's what happened and I can't get into any other details about what happened."
