The stage has been set for another Absa Premiership battle as the business end of the season continues, and new signings are set to play a big role…
Maritzburg United host Stellenbosch FC this evening as the two clubs return to league action after a two-week break due to the Nedbank Cup, with both teams in high spirits given their impressive runs in the league of late.
Eric Tinkler’s side find themselves with just one defeat in their last 11 games in the Absa Premiership as they look to consolidate their place in the top eight, while a remarkable turnaround for Stellies has seen them climb to ninth with four wins in their last five games.
Maritzburg drew 0-0 with Steve Barker’s side in the first half of the season before knocking them out of the Nedbank via a penalty shootout earlier this month, and the home coach this evening thinks that they’re a different beast now.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Tinkler said, “They’re not the same team we played in the first round… That was a game we should have won fairly comfortably in my opinion, but they’ve made a lot of new signings and those signings have brought quality to the team and they’ve achieved fantastic results. So it’s going to be a very, very tough match.
“We have to play the way we have been preparing. If we can play like we prepared in the week, nothing will stop us from collecting the three points.”

The Team of Choice have an excellent record at home on a Friday night, and will be looking to extend that record even further later this evening when they take on Barker’s side in PMB.
