Bloemfontein Celtic announced a new and improved deal for their captain Ndumiso Mabena, and his agent has since revealed how the deal came about.
With the player's contract set to expire in June 2022, Mabena has seen his career revived at Celtic, with offers on the table from unnamed clubs in Gauteng as well as China. Celtic acted quickly to tie down the player, offering a lucrative deal to avoid losing the 33-year-old.
According to his agent, Keke Mokoena they were preparing to take offers from abroad, which would have seen the former Orlando Pirates and Platinum Stars striker possibly make the move in July.
Siwelele ensured that the club secure the player's services with a contract extension that will see him remain at the Mangaung outfit until June 2024.
"Yes, there was interest in China. I will let them know that client decided to stay," Keke tells Siya crew.
The crew understands that new deal will see Mabena get close to the offer by the Chinese club and the new deal shows that Celtic value their captain.
"This is one really big deal and it really shows that the chairman values our client, He is not just any other player. Both the club and us understood that we share the same sentiments.
"We had to make sure that Ndumiso is happy before anything else. We have a very open relationship and we’ve been realistic about what is possible and what is not."
