Nedbank Cup

Result: Moroka Swallows 0-1 SuperSport United

Date: 26 March 2014

Thuso Phala scored the only goal of the game as SuperSport United beat Moroka Swallows 1-0 at the Dobsonville Stadium, to book their spot in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup.

SuperSport debutant Jabu Mahlangu nearly gave the visitors the perfect start in the second minute, as his well floated cross found Dino Ndlovu, who headed just over the cross bar.

Vuyusile Wana had the hosts first shot of match in the ninth minute, the midfielder did well to create space for himself before firing a left-footed effort well over the bar.

The visitors could have went ahead two minutes later, but Thuso Phala fired his volley straight at Sage Stephens, after some good build up play by the visitors.

Giorgi Nergadze tried his luck from distance in the 18th minute but the Swallows midfielder fired his low driven shot straight at Ronwen Williams.

The hosts threatened once again in the 21st minute as Mahlangu long range strike went well over the crossbar, after the 34-year-old was teed by Ndlovu.

Mor Diouf squandered a great opportunity to give the visitors the lead in the 39th minute as the unmarked defender headed wide from six-yards out, after getting on the end of Phala's free kick.

The first effort of the second half fell to Swallows' Edward Manqele in the 58th minute, but the man on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns blasted over the crossbar from six-yards out.

The host pushed on for the opener and were rewarded in the 68th minute as Thuso Phala's powerful left-footed effort from the edge of area gave SuperSport the lead.

SuperSport were happy to pass the ball around in the closing stages but could have added another in the 83rd minute as Phala's close range was kept out by the onrushing Stephens.
