Nedbank Cup Challengers

The 2014 Nedbank Cup draw will take place tonight as some of South Africa’s lower league teams hope to take on some of their PSL counterparts.

This tournament is the only one in South Africa that gives teams from the SAFA 2nd Division and SAB League the chance to come up against Mzansi’s elite clubs, and test themselves against the best in the country.

Often described as South Africa’s equivalent of the English FA Cup, ‘giant killings’ have often played a role in the competition, with Maluti FET College knocking out Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates, last season.

All 16 of the PSL teams get a bye into the round of 32, while the other divisions have to take on each other in order to secure their place.

Up to now, 15 of the 16 non-PSL teams have been decided, with one game left to play.

NFD teams:
Thanda Royal Zulu
Milano United
FC Cape Town
Santos
Black Leopards
United FC
African Warriors
Witbank Spurs

SAFA 2nd Division teams:
Bloemfontein Young Tigers
Gamalakhe United FC
Great North FC
FC Buffalo
Mbombela United

SAFA SAB League teams:
Mainstay United FC
University of Stellenbosch

The final team of the 32 will be decided this weekend when Polokwane City Rovers take on AmaBEE (Both SAFA 2nd Division).

This year’s Nedbank Cup Round of 32 draw will take place at 19h00.
