Uthongathi Stun Cosmos, Kings Grab Second Spot

National First Division Wrap

By - Jan 21, 2018 05:48 PM
There were some unexpected results in the National First Division with lowly Uthongathi FC outwhitting highflying Jomo Cosmos 1-0 and Black Leopards losing 2-1 at home to Cape Town All Stars however, log leaders Highlands Park, went six points clear after recording a 3-0 victory over Ubuntu Cape Town.

In addition, Real Kings moved into second spot following a good 3-1 success over Super Eagles, while there were also wins for Royal Eagles, Stellenbosch and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC.

Thanks to Siyabonga Vilane, Sammy Troughton’s Uthongathi grabbed their 20th point which lifted the Cane Cutters to 11th position.

Igugu Lekapa, for whom Msekeli Mvalo and Lucky Setelele scored, have now leapfrogged Lidoda Duvha.

The Lions of the North, with goals from Sphiwe Mahlangu, Peter Shalulile, and Sabelo Nyembe, showed who was best at Parow Park.

Kings’ victory in KZN came as a result of Nkosingiphile Phewa’s brace and Lindokulhe Mtshali’s single strike, while at the Harry Gwala Stadium, Royal Eagles’ Nkosivumile Zulu also netted twice during his team’s 5-2 hammering of the Natal Rich Boyz.

Eagles’ other goals came from Sandile Kubeka, Siyanda Ngubo and Mazwi Mncube.

Stellenbosch downed relegation-threated Mthatha Bucks 2-1 with Englishman, Samuel Mason-Smith and Jarrod Moroole on the scoresheet.

Bucks’ Mpo Erasmus netted a penalty.

Khunadi Nkoana and Themba Ndlovu were Tshakhuma’s heroes in their 2-0 win over Witbank Spurs at the Puma Rugby Stadium as Sello Chokoe’s side moved above both University of Pretoria and Mbombela United, who played to a goalless draw.

Jomo Cosmos must really look at its tactics in AWAY games.I have watched this team, home and away. Its AWAY tactics or approach are not for the teams wanting to win the league. We scored in only two AWAY games and failed to hit the net in other six AWAY games. All our 5 defeats have been 1-0. Showing that our intent to score is not venomous. As a big and pedigreed club, Jomo Cosmos must be destructive home and away. There should be no difference as we are in NFD. Only in PSL there can be a difference. Last seasoon, we won 1 AWAY game. In that PSL season, we won only one AWAY game. We have to gets points AWAY if we want to win promotion!!! As simple as that. Highlands Park and Kaizer Chiefs won away today.
