National First Division Wrap
The second round of the National First Division got off to a flying start with Mbombela United and Black Leopards each netting four goals during impressive wins over Royal Eagles and University of Pretoria respectively, while log-leaders, Highlands Park hammered Super Eagles 3-0.
In addition, there were also wins for Real Kings, who upset second-placed Jomo Cosmos 1-0, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC, Richards Bay and Ubuntu Cape Town.
Thanks to a hat-trick from Phetolo Sekome, Mbombela moved to within a point of Ezenkosi following their thrilling 4-3 success at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
It was a similar three-goal haul for Lidoda Duvha’s Mwape Musonda during his side’s 4-0 hammering of AmaTuks.
The Lions of the North opened up a 5-point lead with successful efforts from Chris Katjiukua and Moeketsi Sekola (2).
Kings are up to third place after Sello Motsepa’s late winner, having earlier missed a penalty.
Tshakhuma leapfrogged Stellenbosch following their 2-0 victory over Steve Barker’s side in Parow, where Themba Ndlovu (penalty) and Alton Kapinga did the damage.
Richards Bay grabbed a good 2-1 away win over KZN rivals, Uthongathi FC, with goals from Menzi Hlophe and Sphelele Mkhulise.
A point for Duncan Lechesa’s Mthatha Bucks during a 2-2 draw with Cape Town All Stars wasn’t sufficient for his team to move out of the danger zone.
Igugu Lekapa’s Lucky Setelele netted a brace.
Ubuntu Cape Town defeated a 10-man Witbank Spurs 2-1 in the Mother City, thanks to a deserved brace from Ranga Chivaviro.
