Stellenbosch Grab Second Play-Off Spot, Magesi Relegated

In a dramatic afternoon of high drama, Stellenbosch FC snatched a play-off spot from favourites, AmaZulu, who lost 1-0 to FC Cape Town, while Magesi FC were relegated back to the ABC Motsepe League following a 3-0 hammering by Mbombela United.
In addition, despite Royal Eagles beating Witbank Spurs 3-1, the Durban side also missed out on a top-three position.
A Mame Niang penalty was sufficient for Sammy Troughton’s team to finish one point ahead of Eagles and two above AmaZulu.
Usuthu, without the suspended Siyabonga Nomvethe, went down early when the African Beasts’ Lucky Mathosi grabbed his club’s opener following a defensive error.
At a damp Puma Rugby Stadium, Eagles took the lead via Philani Cele but a short while later Joshua Sauls equalised.
Allan Freese’s side went further ahead but ultimately failed in their chase for promotion.
In a six-goal thriller at Parow, Cape Town All Stars whipped Milano United 4-2 with goal from Lucky Setelele (penalty), Keoikantse Mosiatlhaga, Nana Akosah-Bempah and Andisiswe Mtsila.
Mogamad Jappie and Bongile Booi were on target for Eezy my Kinnes, who at one point - with Magesi goalless - looked dead and buried!
In matches of very little significance, Cosmos overpowered University of Pretoria 3-0, while Mthatha Bucks recorded a similar win over Black Leopards.
Mxolisi Macuphu, Denzil Haoseb and Matsilelele Sono got their names on the Esenkosi score sheet.
Lidoda Duvha squandered a chance to go ahead when Mwape Musonda shot over the bar from close range before Chileshe Kangwa gave the Eastern Cape visitors a 1-0 lead.
This was followed up by successful finishes from Sonwaba Maqokolo and Petros Ngebo which means Bucks finish in the top eight.
Champions, Thanda Royal Zulu, beat Real Kings 2-1 at a windy Sugar Ray Zulu Stadium, where “Never Die” Malhubela was on target for the losing side.
But two second half goals from Mhengi Cele and Khotso Malope resulted in Amabhubhesi reaching the 62-point mark.
