Baroka Grab Four Point Lead, Highlands Leapfrog Spurs

National First Division promotion hopefuls, Baroka FC, stretched their lead to four points after cruising to a 3-1 win over Santos, while Highlands Park recorded a 2-1 win over Royal Eagles to grab second spot after Siyavutha could only manage a 2-2 draw against AmaZulu.
In addition, Milano United and Mbombela United also picked up vital victories over Black Leopards and Thanda Royal Zulu respectively.
Bakgaga were initially given a fright at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium when Suhayl Allie opened the scoring for Zeca Marques’ team but the home crowd were then treated to some neat finishes by Lucky Mothwa, Jacky Motshegwa and Nkosinathi Ndlovu, which ensured the log leaders didn’t disappoint.
Eezy my Kinnes moved to within a point of third-placed Spurs following their 2-1 win at Blue Downs Stadium, where Morne Davids and Brandon Theron were on target.
Lidoda Duvha, who are 21 points adrift of Baroka and completely out of contention, netted via a Roggert Nyundu penalty.
But Mbombela, thanks to a 90th minute strike in Richards Bay from Tshediso Patjie, cannot be ruled out.
Interestingly, with this 1-0 success, Tingwenyama not only became the sixth club to reach the 40-point mark but now form part of a breakaway group that could be promoted.
In Witbank, Siyavutha were rocked by a late Marc van Heerden free kick after leading 2-1 through Percy Tau and Joshua Sauls.
Earlier, another penalty, this time from Usuthu’s Zaid Patel gave the visitors something to cheer about however, this result leaves the Durban team ten points behind Milano and a spot in the lucrative play-offs.
The big relegation clash between Vasco da Gama and Mthatha Bucks in Parow saw Velile Dyaloyi’s outfit controlling the first half with some good runs down the flanks.
Buoyed by huge support, they were quicker on the ball, more enthusiastic and determined so it wasn’t a surprise when Bafana Dlamini easy cut the home defence to score after just 19 minutes.
But with time running out, Rafiq De Goede managed to equalise for Vasco.
This was a valuable point for both teams, especially considering that African Warriors lost 2-1 at home to FC Cape Town and Moroka Swallows drew 1-1 with Cape Town All Stars.
