Baroka Bag Six As All Stars Lose

There were goals galore involving some of the top National First Division sides as Baroka FC and Royal Eagles together blasted nine attempts past African Warriors and Witbank Spurs respectively, while league leaders, Cape Town All Stars, came a 2-0 cropper at home to AmaZulu.

There were also victories for Mbombela United and Highlands Park as second-tier outfits completed a third of the season and with just four points separating the top five outfits - it’s still all to play for!

Bakgaga, who returned to second spot after thrashing Warriors 6-0, not only became the first side to surpass the 20-goal mark but currently have a superior goal difference of plus 15 which could play a significant role in their promotion.

Their goals came from Nkosinathi Ndlovu (3), Thabiso Kutumelo (2) and Loyiso Simandla.

The Lions of the North and Vladislav Heric’s Eagles both recorded their fifth victories to sit within striking distance of the top three sides.

Another brace, this time from Khethokwakhe Masuku brought more joy to Eagles’ big Umlazi fan base, while Siyanda Ngubo grabbed their third with Spurs unable to reply.

Jermaine Christian and Simphiwe Tshabalala netted for Highlands as Mthatha Bucks slumped to a 2-0 defeat.

Allan Freese’s side now boasts the best defence record having only conceded 3 goals, illustrating the huge commitment shown by Amajimbos’ goalkeeper coach, Stavros Tsichlas.

Despite overpowering FC Cape Town 2-1, Mbombela remains in 6th position following Sifiso Thomo’s successful twin efforts.

The People’s Team, thanks to Suhayl Allie’s brace beat Lidoda Duvha 2-1 at home for their tenth point.

Former PSL giants, Moroka Swallows moved out of the drop zone on goal difference after a 2-2 away draw against Thanda Royal Zulu with Siyabonga Nomvethe and James Bell on their scoresheet.

Sibongiseni Zuma and Sidudzo Dlamini ensured Amabhubhesi’s mid-table spot.

The much-anticipated Cape derby between Vasco da Gama and Milano United at Parow ended with a 1-0 win for the visitors as Mario Ferreira’s side continue their slide.
