Eagles Hammer Tuks 5-0, Ajax & TTM In Eight-Goal Thriller

While National First Division leaders, Stellenbosch FC and second-placed Ajax Cape Town, dropped vital points during draws with Mbombela United and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC (TTM) respectively, Royal Eagles took full advantage by thrashing University of Pretoria 5-0.

In addition, at the other end of the log, Ubuntu Cape Town added to Jomo Cosmos’ woes, Witbank Spurs could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Uthongathi and TS Galaxy overpowered last-placed Real Kings 1-0.

Although Mbombela and Stellenbosch played to a goalless draw, there was plenty of drama at the Athlone Stadium, where the Urban Warriors and TTM each scored 4 times.

Prince Nxumalo was Ajax’s star with a brace, while Nhlanhla Mgaga grabbed a hat-trick for the visitors in this enthralling encounter.

Ajax’s other marksmen were Thomas Verhaar and Thendo Mukumela plus they had Kiyaam Bull red carded.

Eagles not only leapfrogged Tingwenyama and Ajax into second spot but vastly improved their goal difference to +14, thanks to Andile Fikizolo’s brace coupled with single efforts from Dillan Solomons, Diego Brown (penalty) and Philani Cele.

Four of the goals came before half time as AmaTuks coach, Zipho Dlangalala, watched in dismay.

Two first-half goals by Waseem Isaacs were sufficient for Vladislav Heric’s outfit to grab a vitally important 2-1 victory at Athlone Stadium.

The Cape side are now just three points behind Ezenkosi, who came back strongly in the second period with a penalty from Zaphaniah Mbokoma, before having a late equalizer disallowed. At the Puma Ruby Stadium, Siyavutha showed some early promise by twice hitting the woodwork but in the end had to settle for a share of the spoils.

The Cane Cutters opened the scoring via Menzi Ndwandwe’s spot kick before Khethukuthula Zwane levelled matters about 5 minutes later.

The match between Richards Bay and Cape Umoya United at the

uMhlathuze Sports Complex ended 2-1 in favour of the home side, while TS Sporting and Maccabi FC played to a 2-2 draw.
