Arrows and Cosmos Drop Points

National First Division log leaders, Lamontville Golden Arrows and second placed, Jomo Cosmos, were both held to draws by African Warriors and FC Cape Town respectively, however, interestingly Cape Town All Stars, Thanda Royal Zulu, Royal Eagles, Black Leopards and Baroka FC all recorded 2-1 wins.

While there were no goals in Durban between Abafana Bes’Thende and Warriors, the 1-1 draw between Ezenkosi and the African Beasts at the NNK Rugby Stadium was characterised by fierce tackles, aerial balls and free kicks with both teams going for the jugular.

David Bright’s side opened the scoring in the 26th minute via a penalty from Andile Khumalo, who towards the end saw red when Cosmos were fighting back.

The influential Zimbabwean goal grabber, Charlton Mashumba, hit a last minute strike, his tenth this season which ensured a well-deserved point for the visitors.

Cape Town All Stars won their fifth game in a row, overpowering local rivals, Vasco da Gama, at Philippi, where the goals came during a very late hectic spell of goalmouth action.

Igugu Lekapa’s Zaid Patel hit the opener around the 75th minute mark, shortly thereafter Ndiviwe Mdabuka equalised before new signing, Mthokozisi Msomi, brought joy to Lunga Ncwana’s outfit.

The reliable Ace Bhengu hit a brace as Amabhubhesi overpowered Maluti FET College in Richards Bay, while Eagles’ Seun Ledwaba and Kabelo Mahlasela were on song against Santos.

Leopards continued their winning ways with Siphelele Ntshangase and Roggert Nyundu on target against Witbank Spurs.

Baroka bounced back with a similar victory over Highlands Park with Reginald Sibanyoni and Ivan Shiburi their scorers.

The other encounter that ended all square (2-2) was the clash between Milano United and Garankuwa United.

This game was full of drama as the ref awarded two penalties in the first half, one for each team, and a third during the second period which led to United’s equaliser.

The resourceful Nasief Morris netted his side’s penalty as well as an accurate free kick.

These results mean that eight points separate the top six clubs.
