NAFSA: Jordaan For Safa President

With the South African Football Association (Safa) elective congress set to take place this Saturday, the National African Football Supporters’ Association (NAFSA) is backing Danny Jordaan for the Safa Presidency.

On Saturday, the Safa regions and members are expected to vote for the new president to replace the outgoing Safa president Kirsten Nematandani.

Current Safa vice presidents, Danny Jordaan and Mandla ‘Shoes’ Mazibuko, are standing for the Safa presidency post.

In a statement, NAFSA Secretary-General Siyabulela Makunga said that his Association is giving Jordaan the nod for this post.

“NAFSA is an organization which was founded with strong ideals for supporting democratic and transparent football development. When the nominees for the Safa Presidential Elections were officially announced we immediately ran an online, national election and afforded a rare opportunity to South Africa’s football loving loyalists to have their say as to who should lead Safa. We did this because we appreciate the need for loyal football supporters to have an independent voice in the affairs of football” said Makunga.

According to Makunga the results of the NAFSA poll showed that, out of the total votes received, 72.5% of South Africans believe that Jordaan is the right man to lead Safa, while Mazibuko collected a total of 22.5% votes. 5% of the voters would have preferred a totally different candidate.

“We must state categorically that, as an Associate Member of Safa, NAFSA has not yet obtained a voting seat but it is our view that the voice of football loyalists is representative of the will of the people of South Africa. We put our trust in the Safa regions with whom the voting powers rest. We would like to believe that we are united in a concerted effort to take forward the transformation and development agenda of South African football,” concluded Makunga.
