Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the arrival of former Mamelodi Sundowns defender, Mzikayise Mashaba, who is looking to land a contract at the club.
The Siya crew reported on Tuesday that the 29-year-old – who hasn’t played a competitive game since May 2017 – had started training with the Amakhosi at Naturena, with a view to potentially joining their ranks.
Mashaba is a free agent having recently left Masandawana, and Chiefs’ assistant, Patrick Mabedi, recently admitted that they were looking to bolster the left side of their defence ahead of Giovanni Solinas’ first game in charge.
Now, speaking to the club’s official website, the club’s football manager, Bobby Motaung, said, “We have Mzi with us for training while the Technical Team have a look at him. We will see how it goes and a final decision on him will be made in due course.
“We are looking at bolstering the left side of our play. We know what he can offer but he has been out of action for a while and with our new coach also coming in, we want to make informed decisions before finalising anything.”
Chiefs get their season underway next weekend against Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
