Abubakar Unlikely To Return To Sundowns

Mumuni Abubakar is unlikely to return to Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the season after he was delayed by an injury in his progress at Black Leopards this season.

The Ghanaian, who spent the 2012/13 season without getting game-time at Sundowns, is spending the current campaign on loan at the Limpopo outfit. The 20-year-old started the season with a bang at Lidoda Duvha as he was scoring goals for the NFD outfit.

According to a source close to the Chloorkop side, the player’s contract situation is still a confidential matter for the club’s management.

“He is still a Sundowns player. You know Sundowns when it comes to the players’ contracts and situations like that, they don’t want anyone to discuss that,” said the source.

Seemingly, the player is no longer interested in a return to the club due to stiff competition for places in Pitso Mosimane’s team and a number of foreigners at the club.

The player’s agent, Ralph Nkomo, confirmed to the Siya-crew that Abubakar belongs to Sundowns. The club has many registered and non-registered foreigners in its books.

Some players are with the team, while others have been loaned out to various clubs in the NFD, PSL and overseas. Glenn Verbauwhede and Mukuka Mulenga are some of the players that were signed by Sundowns and are yet to play due to injuries.

Kudakwashe Mahachi, Ejike Uzoenye, Emmanuel Matthias and Hichani Himoonde are some of the players that were signed and loaned out to different countries around the African continent.
