Ajax Cape Town head coach, Muhsin Ertugral has revealed that one of his young talents at the club wants to remain with him but there could be one other team that may attract his interest.
Fagrie Lakay, who is currently on loan at Ajax from SuperSport United, will see his spell come to an end on June 30, this year.
However, Head Coach Ertugral confirmed to the media that Lakay has revealed to him that he wants to remain at the Urban Warriors, where he continues under the mentorship of the Turkish-born coach.
The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to Maritzburg United, although, with Lakay still contracted to SuperSport, management at Matsatsantsa will have to make a decision about where he will end up next season, while Ertugral confirms that it will be the player’s choice.
“It is also, the decision is with him because today’s players are like stock market exchange, I don’t think at this point in time he is very hot property, but I also can tell you that he doesn’t want to go somewhere else than working with me, because it was with Tendai, you have that special bond,” Erugral told the media.
The Turkish-born head coach then went on to say that he may just need one more season under his mentorship and Lakay could be off to Europe, while also adding that there may be one team in South Africa that could attract his interest, possibly hinting that it’s Mamelodi Sundowns.
“He (Lakay) is such a big talent and if he can stay another season with me, I think he is done with South Africa, overseas, I think he has a chance for that.
“There is only one team that can really attract him, (in) my opinion, (they’re) playing all the Champions leagues and winning all the titles, I think that’s the other team that will go for him. I don’t need to tell you that, you know better than me,” he added.
