Platinum Stars will once again be without captain, Vuyo Mere, for the Telkom Knockout final, however Henrico Botes is back and Siphelele Mthembu could be fit.
Mthembu missed the club’s last three games due to a calf injury that he picked up against SuperSport United, and in his absence Dikwena has lost just once, with Botes grabbing two goals along the way.
Meanwhille, the Nambian will be available for selection again after missing the 2-1 win over Golden Arrows through suspension, although it is unsure if he will start.
However, the former Orlando Pirates man could recover in time to face his old team and if back to fitness, could feature in Saturday’s final. It remains up to the club’s head coach whether he selects him or not.
Dikwena’s PRO, Aubrey Molobi, explained, “It doesn’t look like we’ll have our captain for the game, but Henrico Botes is back after his suspension and there’s a chance that Siphelele could make it too. It’s never good to lose players, but we feel that there is ample cover in our team and that whoever comes in will do a good job.”
With Botes finding a bit of form, and Stars winning games, it seems unlikely that Freese would choose to bring Mthembu back in, even if he is fit, however he did favour the younger of the two earlier in the season.
The South African forward has scored five goals in 14 games in all competitions so far, while his Namibian team-mate has five in 13.
Stars will not be involved in any mid-week action due to their Telkom Knockout final showdown with Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
Should Dikwena stick with Botes up front?
