Platinum Stars striker, Siphelele Mthembu, insists that he’s got no score to settle when Dikwena take on Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 final this weekend.
The 26-year-old forward has already got five goals in all competitions for Allan Freese’s side this season, three of those coming in the MTN8 tournament against Free State Stars and Wits in the quarter and semi-finals.
Dikwena beat The Clever Boys 6-3 on aggregate in the semis to progress to this weekend’s showpiece.
Mthembu, a former Buccaneer himself, will be happy to have found his scoring boots again for Stars, but he has told the Siya crew that the MTN8 is about the team and not about him playing against his former club.
He said, “For me, it’s nothing personal. It’s about the team and about our teamwork. We’ve been wanting to get to the final for a long time and it’s going to come down to how much we want it.
“Playing against Pirates, for me, is the same as playing against Chiefs or Sundowns. I’m more worried about the team doing well than about me doing well.
“I think there’s more pressure on Pirates. We’re motivated by the fact that we’re playing The Bucs and because we’re in the final. Also, the type of football we’re playing motivates us because we enjoy it in training and on the field. It’s going to be a war.”
The game between Pirates and Stars will take place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night, with kick-off set for 20h15.
