Makola: Bucs Fighting For Champs League
Orlando Pirates playmaker, Mpho Makola is fully aware of the task his side must embark in toppling Mamelodi Sundowns from their second place spot in the PSL table, if they are to qualify for next season’s CAF Champions League.
The Buccaneers are currently in third place behind Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns respectively, with all three sides’ still in with a chance of clinching the league title.
Ahead of Bucs’ mid-week league encounter against Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Orlando Stadium, Makola informed the crew that bagging maximum points till their final game against Ajax Cape Town in May would be the determining factor for their participation in next year's Champions League.
“We want to play in next year’s Champions League and we know it won’t come by itself, it will need us to play our part,” said the Bucs man.
“The players who’ve tasted African football are hungry for more football at that level, including myself.”
“However in order for us to get there we need to win our matches, starting with Aces,” added the midfielder.
“We want a top two finish in the league as to which position in the top two, only time will tell, however Champions League is
what we are fighting for,” concluded the lanky 27-year-old.
