Makola: Overseas They Take Shots From Everywhere

Orlando Pirates midfielder, Mpho Makola, believes that players plying their trade in South Africa should starting shooting more.

Makola has shown some impressive form for the Buccaneers as of late, notching up four goals for the Soweto giants so far this campaign.

The 29-year-old is renowned for his shooting and has scored a number of excellent long range goals including a beauty against Senegal on his Bafana Bafana debut in the Nelson Mandela Challenge.

'Bibo' is of the opinion that midfielders in the PSL should brush up on their shooting and start taking more shots from outside the box.

“Luckily for me, I grew up with people that saw the ability that I could take those shots and free-kicks. I’ve never lost that, you know. It’s been part of my game ever since I was a kid,” Makola told Soccer Laduma.

“I mean, you look at the guys from overseas. They take shots from everywhere, even the halfway line, because they believe they can score. It’s something that we lack as South African football players.

“You find someone who plays something like 30 games, but he’s only got two goals. But you look at the stats from someone who plays overseas and you find that a defensive midfielder has got 10 goals because they always take shots, you know what I mean? It’s something that we can work on and improve, especially as attacking players.”
