Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego "Killer" Mphela was sidelined due to injury for almost six months, but managed to recover in the nick of time to represent his country.
Mphela: We Learnt A Lot In The World Cup
He returned to action in early December and he played just four games for the Brazilians, where he scored three goals and convinced Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund to include him in the African Cup of Nations squad that goes into camp today.
Mphela tells Soccer-Laduma that it is all in God's plan that he is in the team and he says if given the chance he will have to repay Igesund for his faith in him.
"I know it won't be about Killer, but as a team we want to do it for the country. For me it is only God who knows how it happens and why. I was not putting myself under pressure or what, but just worked on my injury until I was fit. I am thankful to the coach at Sundowns for giving me the chance in the last few games which made the national coach see me.
"But as I have said as a team we are ready to go out there and die for our country. Yes we learnt a lot from the World Cup and I think that experience will help us a lot this time around," Mphela concluded.
