Kaizer Chiefs’ Ramahlwe ‘Rama’ Mphahlele says that he is challenged to work even harder next season and help the team win silverware.
Mphahlele was awarded the Player’s Player of the Season accolade after his first season donning the Amakhosi colours and cementing his place in Head Coach Steve Komphela’s starting line-up.
As quoted saying on Chiefs’ official website, the 27-year-old right-back admitted that winning the award after a season where the team failed to clinch any domestic titles during the 2016/17 campaign, was ‘bittersweet’.
“It is bittersweet to win an individual award when the team didn’t win any silverware. However, you can’t take away individual efforts. We worked tirelessly as a team, but individual performances are part and parcel of the game,” Mphahlele said.
The defender joined up with the Soweto giants last year, July, after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns as a free agent.
“When I came to Chiefs, I knew I had only one choice and that’s to win. I knew I was joining a huge club, with great history and pedigree. With these rewards, I am challenged to work even harder to improve my performances and contribute to the team’s goal of winning trophies next season.”
“Without my teammates, this wouldn’t be possible. I wish to thank the entire Amakhosi Family for the support during my first season with the club. I wish the team a good rest during the off-season and look forward to a great season ahead of us,” he added.
