Mamelodi Sundowns clashed with Maritzburg United at home last Friday, with the Brazilians were hoping to stay on top of the table but failed to get maximum points.
These sides played to a 2-2 draw that saw Maritzburg nearly grabbing the three points, the Brazilians came back to equalise and ensured they share the spoils. Katlego Mashego and Khama Billiat scored for Sundowns, while Orlando Smeekes and Mario Booysen got onto the scoresheeet for the Team of Choice.
After the game, Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane, said his team showed character, that his boys tried but they need to dig deeper.
“I think this was deja vu. Every time I pick out a player (Orlando Smeekes)... because I know what is going to come. These are tough times, but we have to go on. It's not lost. February, times are tough, people will be travelling, but we have to show character. The game was there. This is reality, this is football. We have to dig deeper. This is a marathon, we are only on the 13th game - there are 17 games to go. Sometimes when you win you forget this. We have to go on, it's okay - it tests character, it wakes us up,” said Mosimane.
Although he said the league is a marathon, he said he needs to see more fighting spirit from his team, the former Bafana Bafana coach said he is disappointed but knows it’s football.
“But we are disappointed but it's football, it's okay. I don't want to talk about players from other teams. I see in the newspapers they are talking about our player (Edward) Manqele, and some people are trying to direct him to another club - but he is our player,” he added.
