Moroka Swallows have confirmed that they will not renew the contract of defender Gilbert Mapemba.
The 28-year-old Zimbabwean defender played 13 league matches for Swallows last season, but he didn’t do enough to convince the Swallows management to give him a new contract.
Swallows CEO Leon Prins confirmed to the Siya crew that his club will not retain Mapemba.
“We needed to free up space for a foreign player and we decided that it was best if we release Gilbert. He did well for us in that right back position last season, but we needed to create some space for offensive players,” explained Prins.
Meanwhile, Prins confirmed to the crew that he was in the process of bolstering the Swallows squad following a poor season that saw the club finishing 13th on the log.
“We’ll make further announcements about the player movements at Swallows once all the deals have been concluded,” commented Prins.
Several players like Tshediso Patjie, Mxolisi Mayongo and Benson Mhlongo have been mentioned as possible Swallows targets.
“Like I said, I will not mention the players’ names until all the deals are done,” concluded Prins.
