Morocco Send Uganda Packing

African Nations Championship

Morocco confirmed their place in the knockout stages of African Nations Championship as they beat Uganda 3-1 at the Cape Town Stadium.

Vincent Kayizi came close to giving Uganda the lead in the 16th minute, but the midfielder's effort was blocked by Adil Karrouchi, after some good wing play by Brian Majwega.

Majwega tried his luck from distance with a free kick in the 22nd minute, but the winger fired his effort straight at Nadir Lamyaghri, who collected with ease.

Morocco took the lead in the 28th minute through Abdessamad Rafik with a finish from close range, after a low cross by Abdelkabur El Ouadi.

Hassan Mwanda Wasswa nearly brought Uganda level in the 32nd minute, but the midfielder's volley drew a brilliant save from Lamyaghri.

Julius Ntambi went for the spectacular in the 39th minute but the defender's volley from distance went high and wide.

Rafik could have doubled his side's lead in the 41st minute, Abdelkabur El Ouadi did well to pick out Rafik on the edge of the area but the striker's effort lack the power to beat Benjamin Ochan.

Muleme tested Lamyaghri just after the halftime break but the defender's effort was easily dealt with by the Moroccan number one.

Yunus almost equalised for the Cranes in the 53rd minute but his header deflected just over the bar.

Uganda equalised in the 59th minute through Yunus Sentamu, the striker managed to get on the end of Denis Guma's lob to slot home his third goal in the tournament.

Sentamu could have put the Lions of Atlas ahead in the 70th minute but the striker's header failed to trouble Lamyaghri, following a cross from Majwega.

Issam Erraki tired his luck from range in the 74th minute but midfielder's effort went high and wide.

Adelkabir El Ouadi squandered a chance to give Morocco the lead in the 75th minute, the striker fired his effort straight at Ochan, who gathered with ease.

Just a minute later and Substitute Iajour Mouhssine gave the Moroccans the lead with a clinical finish from the edge of the area, after some messy build-up play.

Iajour missed a great opportunity to increase Morocco's lead in the 82nd minute, the striker was through on goal with only Ochan to beat, but Uganda's number one got down well to deny the striker.

Guma nearly eaqulised for Uganda in the 87th minute but his free kick flew inches over the bar.

El Ouadi sealed the victory deep into stoppage time, the striker rounded Ochan before slotting home into an empty net.
