Mamelodi Sundowns are said to have paid a whopping R5 million for Thapelo Morena’s switch from Bloemfontein Celtic to Chloorkop.
In addition, the league champions sacrificed one of their players and made him available for a switch from Chloorkop to Mangaung, as part of Morena’s deal.
Following prolonged negotiations between Sundowns and Celtic during the transfer window, Siwelele agreed to the sale of Morena to Downs.
The Brazilians confirmed that the midfielder signed a five-year deal with them. While Downs and Celtic have played their cards close to their chests on the details of the player’s transfer fee, Siya sources have confirmed that the move is worth a whopping R5 million.
Burundian striker Fiston Abdul Razak has been sent to Celtic for his second successive loan spell, as part of the deal that saw Morena move to Gauteng.
Razak finished the 2015/16 season with Celtic, having joined the side on loan from Sundowns in January. Downs coach, Pitso Mosimane, is a big fan of Morena, although there were talks during the transfer window of sending him on loan to Golden Arrows.
Morena made his official debut for Sundowns in the MTN8 game against Chippa United, after it was decided that the 23-year old should stay on and compete for a place in Mosimane’s team.
