Following Platinum Stars’ success in clinching the fourth quarter of the PSL Q-Innovation, the PSL’s acting CEO, Cambridge Mokanyane, has heaped praise on the Phokeng-based side.
Dikwena narrowly lost out on the Absa Premiership trophy this season, ending the campaign on 56 points, one point behind the crowned champions, Kaizer Chiefs. However, under the guidance of coach Cavin Johnson, the team claimed the Q2 and Q4, bagging R1.5 million in prize money for each of the two quarters.
In a statement released by the PSL, Mokanyane has commended Johnson and his players for their showing in the 2012/13 campaign.
“Even though they did not win the Championship, Platinum Stars should be applauded for their performance this season. They played well and Cavin Johnson and his players should be commended for their effort. They fully deserve these honours,” Mokanyane said in the statement.
The PSL’s acting CEO went on to applaud the Q-Innovation’s success in its inaugural season. He added, “The first season of the Q-Innovation has been a huge success and we are looking forward to taking this concept to the next level.
“The Q-Innovation is about recognizing and rewarding performance and I’m very excited about the fact that teams have embraced this initiative. We are looking forward to 2013/14 season.”
