Orlando Pirates' Abbubaker Mobara is excited to be back at the club to be part of the preparations for the new season.
The South African U23 international is back from Brazil, after playing for Owen da Gama’s side in the Olympic Games.
Speaking to Bucs’ official website, the former Ajax Cape Town player has emphasised the importance of familiarising himself with his new teammates at the Soweto giants.
“Monday was my first time back and I am just so excited to be coming straight to Johannesburg and join my new team for the preseason. The good thing is that I’m fit because I have been playing all along during the football break, so the only thing that’s left now is to gel with the team as quick as possible because it’s important if we want to be successful in the upcoming season.
"As players we need to know each other individually, get used to each other and understand what it means to be part of the Orlando Pirates set up as well as understanding where I will play and what role the coach wants me to play. I think it’s important for us who are joining the team this week to work extra hard on catching up and gel with the rest of the team because that’s the whole point of preseason,” Mobara told the club’s website.
The 22-year-old has also spoken about his relationship with Pirates’ head coach Muhsin Ertugral, which dates back to their days at Ajax.
“I am not surprised at all because he was the one who promoted me to the first team and he has always maintained that he saw me as a defensive midfielder and nothing else. To me positions are not that important, the key thing is that I fight for a chance to play and when I get that opportunity I make sure that I deliver. Look, Muhsin is a good coach, he has his own style of football and is quite knowledgeable in the game. But it has been a while since I played under him so I will have to work just as hard as everyone else to get the playing patterns right, to be on par with the rest of the guys on the tactical and technical aspects that the coach wants. But I’m excited with what I have seen so far, everyone is working really hard here, the mood is great and the spirits are high which is why I am confident in us as a team,” explained Mobara.
