Mamelodi Sundowns legend, Themba Mnguni, revealed to the Siya crew that he is helping his son achieve his dream of becoming a professional footballer.
Tshepi Mnguni is being nurtured at Sundowns’ development where his father currently works as one of the youth coaches.
“I’m glad that my boy Tshepi has resumed training after the accident. My concern was that he should get full support to lift his morale. He plays as a defender for the U13s of Sundowns. Although he plays right-back, he has been scoring goals like nobody’s business. The boy is a gem. The way I see it, he will play (professionally). If he doesn’t change, he will play,” said Mnguni.
The 13-year-old escaped with injuries in a car accident while travelling with his father two months ago.
Mnguni senior still holds Sundowns’ record of the most starts in a season, at 48. He achieved this in the 1997/98 season.
Mnguni’s former teammate, Isaac Shai, also had his son, Siyabulela, nurtured at Sundowns. The talented player is currently on loan to Chippa United in the NFD.
