Former Wits midfielder Thando Mngomeni is training at Chippa United, as he aims to impress coach Farouk Abrahams and land a PSL contract.
It was recently reported on the Soccer-Laduma web and mobi-site that the Cape side was waiting on the skilful midfielder to return to the team after he prematurely left them during his initial trial in November.
Mngomeni has joined former South African Under-23 midfielder, Masibusane Zongo, on trial with the Chilli Boys.
The team is looking for a creative player that can create goal scoring chances in the last third. With earlier attempts to lure Mark Mayambela and Abia Nale to the side having failed, Abrahams will be hoping to get the best out of the two players in the next few training sessions.
However, according to a source in the know at Chippa, Mngomeni will need to put the extra effort in. “Mngomeni has arrived and is training with us. He was here before but he disappeared. He hasn’t shown much so far and will need to work harder,” said the source.
Mngomeni has been without a club this season. The 29-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements at Wits after failing to make a single start in the 2011/12 season.
